By providing either in-home or in-school behavioral intervention, our goal is to:
- Improve the behavior of the child
- Increase optimism within the classroom and family and decrease staff/parental fatigue
- Provide the opportunity to heal from the psychological damage the misbehavior has had on the staff, parents, child or siblings (increase resiliency)
- Decrease the likelihood of out-of-home placement
- Embed the child into the community
- Guide the child into new, natural relationships
- Helping remove stigma and unneccesary labels attached to difficult-to-serve children.
The Behavior Specialists role is:
- Implementing the Individual Education Plan (IEP)
- Designing and implementing behavioral plans and goals in conjunction with the treatment plan or input from the case manager or therapist and to document progress
- Promoting the physical safety of the client and discouraging dangerous or unwanted behaviors
- Integrating the child into the community through exposure, activities, or therapeutic programs that engage the client in supportive natural relationships.
- Providing in-home respite care for the parent.
